Judges Joy Malek Oldfield and Kelly McLaughlin Summit County Common Pleas Court Honored at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award Ceremony

Summit County, Ohio:  Judges Joy Malek Oldfield and Kelly McLaughlin are honorees for the 2020 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Committed to the Cause of Justice” at the Mothers On a Mission 13th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Majors Award Ceremony on Saturday, January 25, 2020.

The event, themed “Conscience of a Nation,” is being held at 12:00 noon at the First United Methodist Church in Akron.  The program will feature keynote speaker, Author Antonio Javar Hairston.

“The ceremony is a wonderful event which I have attended for many years. It gives community stakeholders an opportunity to meet with each other and honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  I am grateful to be recognized for my commitment to the cause of justice.” said Judge Oldfield.

Each year, Mothers On a Mission holds the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Ceremony which honors community leaders and organizations who exemplify what it truly means to serve the people. Honorees have answered Dr. King’s call to live a life filled with justice and love.

Judge McLaughlin is honored to be receiving the award.  “I look forward to celebrating his life and leadership.  As Dr. King said ‘people fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don’t know each other; they don’t know each other because they have not communicated with each other.’ In my roles as a judge and community leader, I work tirelessly for justice and fairness.” concluded Judge McLaughlin.
